What Happened
Hibernian took the lead on 12 minutes through a Campbell penalty. Rangers battled their way back into the match and equalised in the 85th minute through a Miguel Chaiwa own goal. With the leveller so late, a share of the points looked the likely outcome.
Hibs had other ideas. Wright collected the ball on a counter-attack launched from a Rangers corner, drove forward and finished. 2-1, 90+3 minutes.
Rangers striker Youssef Chermiti, who had been the subject of a reported £22 million bid from Galatasaray during the summer, was stretchered off during the match after a collision with the advertising boards.
The Significance
Three consecutive seasons. Hibernian have won at Ibrox three times in a row now. That is not an accident and it is not insignificant. It represents a shift in the psychological balance between the two clubs on this particular fixture.
For Rangers, the table after two games of the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership is uncomfortable. They have one point: a draw in their opening game and now a home defeat. They sit ninth.
Celtic, for comparison, have six points from two games and a goal difference of plus five.
McInnes was appointed to turn things around. So far, the early evidence does not suggest that is happening. A home loss to a side that pushed him into injury time before going behind is not the statement his squad needed.
