Jude Bellingham scored in the second minute of stoppage time just before the break, and then struck again three minutes into extra time to send England into the World Cup 2026 semi-final. England beat Norway 2-1 in Miami. It is their fourth ever World Cup semi-final.

The Match
Andreas Schjelderup put Norway in front on 36 minutes. England had not been playing badly, but the concession gave Norway something to protect, and they protected it well through the first half. Then Bellingham levelled at 45’+2′ and the complexion changed.
The second half finished goalless. Norway were still level at 90 minutes. Both teams went into extra time at 1-1. In the 93rd minute, Bellingham scored again and England were through.

England created the clearer chances across 120 minutes. Their expected goals figure of 1.04 compared to Norway’s 0.68 reflected a game where England threatened more consistently. Shots on goal: England 8 (57% accuracy), Norway 4 (31%). Possession was close: England 52%, Norway 48%.
Norway did not come here to sit deep. They had 494 accurate passes at 86% completion. They competed for every duel (49 won to England’s 53). But the final quality was England’s, and it arrived at the moments that mattered.
What Comes Next
England’s semi-final opponent will be Argentina. In the other quarter-final on Saturday night, Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 after extra time in Kansas City. Alexis Mac Allister scored early; Dan Ndoye equalised for Switzerland. Breel Embolo was sent off. In extra time, Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez settled it for Argentina.
England face Argentina in Atlanta. A World Cup semi-final between two of the tournament’s remaining four nations. Date to be confirmed.
England’s run through this World Cup has now reached the last four for the first time since 2018, and only the fourth time in their history.
Norway
Norway exit the World Cup in the quarter-finals. Schjelderup’s goal was deserved. Their defensive discipline held for long periods. But Bellingham found a way through twice, and the second time there was no coming back from it.
