New York are three wins into a four-game sweep. Cleveland needs four consecutive wins starting tonight or their season ends. Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals tips off at 8:00pm ET at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.
The Knicks have not been to the NBA Finals since 1999. They are one win away from changing that.
Series Context
The New York Knicks (53-29 in the regular season) have controlled this series from the first possession. Game 1 produced one of the more memorable moments of these playoffs: New York rallied from 22 points down in the fourth quarter, with Jalen Brunson scoring 38 and the Knicks eventually winning 115-104 in overtime. It was the kind of comeback that tells you more about a team’s character than a flat win does.
Game 3 in Cleveland confirmed the Knicks are not fluking this. Brunson scored 30 points. Mikal Bridges added 22. New York led comfortably throughout to win 121-108. The Cavaliers’ offensive weapons, Donovan Mitchell (23 pts in G3), Evan Mobley (24), and James Harden (19), produced enough individual quality to stay competitive but could not solve Knicks defensive schemes that have made them exceptional through the entire postseason.
Cleveland (52-30 in the regular season) are not short of talent. They are short of answers against a team that is playing the best basketball in the Eastern Conference right now.
The Numbers That Define This Series
The Knicks have won 10 straight games in this postseason [nba.com, May 2026]. That streak spans two opponents and includes two road wins. Their offence runs through Brunson, 30-plus in multiple games, and their defence has been consistent enough to limit every opponent they have faced.
Both teams enter Game 4 with clean injury reports: no players listed as questionable or out for either the Knicks or Cavaliers [Fox Sports / iHeart Radio, 25 May 2026].
Tonight
Cleveland has everything to play for at home in a building that has hosted championship basketball before. Home court will not be a given in this game, the Knicks have already won at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in this series. But a Cleveland crowd that knows their season is on the line has historically been a factor.
For the Cavaliers to win: Donovan Mitchell needs a massive performance, the defence has to slow Brunson, and they need to make New York uncomfortable from the arc early. A fast start from the home team in the first five minutes matters enormously in elimination games.
For the Knicks: play their game, trust their defence, and Brunson does the rest. They have shown no signs of complacency through three games.
Lean
The data points towards a Knicks win. They are the better-organised team in this series and they have handled adversity — including a 22-point fourth-quarter deficit in Game 1 — without breaking. A team on a 10-game postseason win streak does not simply collapse on the road in a potential close-out game.
Cleveland is capable of forcing a Game 5 — this is the NBA playoffs and home teams in elimination games raise their level. But New York are the team in form.
