Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool was settled by one goal and one manager’s return. Andoni Iraola went back to the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, the ground where Iraola spent three seasons in charge of Bournemouth, and left with three points for Liverpool. Alexander Isak scored in the 57th minute. Nothing else got past either goalkeeper.

It was not a fluent afternoon for the visitors. Iraola said afterwards that “we weren’t at the level” early on, and Alisson had to keep Liverpool level in the first half, saving Evanilson’s near-post flick in the 18th minute.
The breakthrough came in the 57th minute. Cody Gakpo drove down the right and crossed, the ball took a slight deflection off Florian Wirtz, and Isak finished. Sky Sports pointed to Gakpo’s run as the key to the build-up. For Isak it was a fourth Premier League goal in five games this season.
Liverpool finished with 12 shots to Bournemouth’s 9. It was not a one-sided game, and the margin was one goal.
What it means
Two Opta records sit on top of the result. Liverpool kept a third successive Premier League clean sheet, the first time they have kept three in a row since September 2024. And Iraola is the first Liverpool manager to stay unbeaten through the first five league games in charge (two wins, three draws) since Joe Fagan in September 1983.
The table shows what that record is worth. Liverpool are sixth on 9 points from five games: won 2, drawn 3, lost none, with seven scored and four conceded. That is one point behind third-placed Brighton on 10 and six behind leaders Manchester City on 15. Brentford, Leeds United and Everton are also on 9, so the gaps in the middle are small. The pattern matters more than the single result. Liverpool are hard to beat and hard to score against, but they are not yet scoring freely.
